Tangshan Teachers’ College, Yutian Branch
Tangshan Teachers’College, Yutian Branch is administered directly by Tangshan Education Commission. It is located in Yutian county, 110km west to Beijing City, 120km southwest to Tianjin City, 50km east to Tangshan City, 40km north to Eastern Qing Tombs---the world cultural heritage. It owns an advantageous geographical position and convenient transportation, with railroad and highway through east and west.
Tangshan Teachers’ College, Yutian Branch was founded in 1951. It covers about 9 hectares, including a teaching building, an office building, a laboratory building, a dining hall, an information centre building, 4 student dormitory buildings and 1 faculty apartment. Its total building area is 39,187 square metres.
Yutian Branch practices principal-responsible system. There are College Affairs Office, Teaching Affairs Office, Student Affairs Office, General Affairs Office, Further Education Office, Teaching Research Office, Trade Union and the Youth League Committee in the school. It has 44 classes, among which 38 English major classes, 6 music and art major classes. There are about 1,900 students. The faculty is 163, including 2 associate professors, 40 advanced lecturers and 66 lecturers. In addition, it owns an affiliated primary school with 12 classes, 900 pupils and 45 teachers; especially Mr. Qian Shouwang is a national excellent teacher and a teacher of special class. Tangshan People’s Government rewards our school as an advanced unit in spiritual civilization many times.
Yutian Branch sticks to teaching-centre principle. It creates active teaching environment. The teaching management is standardized. Our school applies teaching-centre, students’ comprehensive capability-centre model. The teaching quality improves steadily. The school leaders inspire the teaching staff on the research and reform of teaching through various channels. They have made rapid progress. Within 3 years, teachers have published 145 theses and treatises. Especially Qi Junlin and Zhang Suhe got the 2nd and 3rd places respectively in Zeng Xianzi Education Fund Organization.
Our school focuses on major characteristics. It is the first normal school to offer English major in 1978 in Hebei Province. Due to the great increase of English teachers, our school adjusts major teaching structure. English major classes increased from 2 to 4 per grade in 1998. From 2001, there are 10 English major classes per grade. Up to September 2001, it has formed the model that the majority of five-year and senior-based two-year English major students, coexisting with music and art major students.
